: a common widely distributed No. American hawk (Accipiter striatus velox) having the upper parts ashy gray, the underparts white barred with rufous, and the rather long tail barred with blackish and tipped with white, being scarcely larger than the American sparrow hawk, noted for its dash and spirit, and often attacking poultry
